Interviewer:

Dear listeners, meet Lee Hadwin the ‘sleepwalking artist’. Lee, how did you feel when you first woke up and found a masterpiece on your bedroom wall?

Man:

Well, I don’t remember the first time. I started drawing in my sleep when I was four. As a child I used to get up at night and draw on the walls. In my teens the drawings became more detailed. I drew pictures and in the morning I just looked at them and thought ‘Oh, wow!’ My parents took me to doctors who said it might be because of a big shock. But nothing terrible happened in my life before I was twelve, so I’m sure shock wasn’t the reason.

Interviewer:

Did the doctors suggest a therapy?

Man:

No. They’re surprised that I cannot produce the same things when I’m awake. I’m not good at art when I don’t sleep. But the doctors’ advice to my parents was to let me carry on, and so they did.

Interviewer:

Good for them, because in the next two decades you produced more than 600 great paintings and drawings. But art critics don’t like your pictures too much.

Man:

I don’t blame them. They know better than anyone that in the case of most people it takes years of studying and hard work to become an artist. Then you get someone like me who’s never been to university and who doesn’t know much about art, and people buy my work.

Interviewer:

Lee, thank you for being with us.

Man:

It was a pleasure.

Interviewer:

In the studio we have Ollie James who’s just published his first book and it has become a bestseller. Welcome, Ollie.

Man:

Hi. I’m very happy to be here.

Interviewer:

Ollie, tell us a little about your book.

Man:

Well, it’s called My 20-Minute Meals and it was written for those who don’t have much time to cook at home but are interested in eating healthy and tasty meals.

Interviewer:

Was it difficult to create so many quick recipes for your book?

Man:

It wasn’t easy. Not because of the time limit of 20 minutes, but because I wanted well-balanced meals. To make sure the meals have the right ingredients and good proportions, I worked with an expert on healthy food all the time. He examined my meals to see how much fat and salt I used.

Interviewer:

What does the success of your book say about our eating habits today?

Man:

We have less time to cook, but we still want great-tasting meals.

Interviewer:

And what about people who love fast food? Can they change themselves into 20-minute chefs?

Man:

They could start with something like pork tacos or a special Mexican salad called Three Colours. My fast but healthy meals can really become their favourites. And one more thing. Remember you shouldn’t worry if it’s hard for you to make the meals the first time you do it. I’m sure it won’t take you more than 20 minutes even if you have no cooking experience.

Woman: I’m calling to share my point of view on dieting and healthy living. I used to go on diets but they didn’t work for me. Then I started jogging and working out five days a week. Over the last 6 months I’ve lost 10 kilos and I feel great. I’ve heard that many diets are harmful to your health. Take a lot of physical exercise and you won’t need them!

Man: And now some news from South Korea. Overweight animals in a zoo in Seoul will go on a diet. Animals have been eating large amounts of processed food for the last few years. As a result they’ve grown too big and lots of health problems have appeared. That’s why the zoo workers have decided to feed these animals on natural food and limit the processed foods. Let’s hope they will get better soon.

Woman: Today I’d like to talk about eating to be healthy. You don’t have to follow strange diets to be in good shape. If you eat the right products, you’ll feel fine, have a lot of energy, and be in a great mood. In general, you should eat less unhealthy food, for example, sweets, cakes or chips. Instead, eat fresh fruit and vegetables. You won’t necessarily lose weight but it will definitely make you healthier.

Man: Robert and his wife Jennifer went on a diet. It had recipes for each meal of the day. They followed the recipes, eating only half of what they prepared. They thought the diet was great. They had never felt better, and they didn’t feel hungry. However, the couple realized that they were putting on weight. They decided to look at the recipes one more time. And then they noticed that the recipes were for six people!

Man: I’m the coach of our college rugby team. Some people say rugby is the world’s most dangerous sport. But it’s not true. The players get fewer injuries than those who play hockey or football. The game is quite simple really and it is nice to watch. It teaches cooperation, self-discipline and team skills. It’s time you started playing it. You’ll have the time of your life. We meet twice a week so you’ll have time for other activities as well.

Wypowiedź 2.

Woman: Some people say that cheerleading is just about shouting and supporting a team at a sports event. But in my opinion, they are wrong! Like any sport it requires a lot of fitness and training. There are some rules you have to follow and it’s quite dangerous. You must hope that the people who throw you in the air will catch you when you fall and will be careful when kicking or doing jumps. Anyone who says that cheerleading is not a sport knows nothing about it.

Wypowiedź 3.

Man: Are you a good football player? Would you like to train with one of today’s biggest football stars? If so, start by designing your own football poster. You can send it to us at the usual address or email it. Don’t forget to include a short note explaining why you should be picked for the team that will train with professionals. Don’t miss your chance to win this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! Good luck!

Woman: Your passion, enthusiasm and determination have been the key to every one of our successes over the last few years. You’ve been the best basketball players I’ve ever seen play for us. Thank you for showing us what it means to be reliable and loyal. Now you have finished your college education and you’re looking forward to new challenges and experiences. I wish you good luck. I’m afraid there won’t be other players like you for years to come.

Man: It seems that the situation with your friends is worrying you. It’s good you don’t want to accept their behaviour. If you really want to move away from the group, try slowly spending less time with them and look around for others that you can spend some time with. It’s a difficult situation but you’re right to feel that you don’t want to be part of such a group. Get in touch with us again if you want to talk about this more.

Woman: I’d like to tell you about last weekend. My family and I went to Rovers Holiday Park. It’s a small site, but there are many attractions. We checked in and my brother immediately decided to try out a climbing wall. The rest of us went to see a show. It turned out to be very funny. At one point, the actors invited some people to come on stage and I was brave enough to do that. The next day we visited a place which looks like a museum, but actually, it’s a studio where you can paint all sorts of objects. In the evening we had a barbecue. The weekend was great.

Man: As temperatures are getting higher, we’re reminding all pet owners to keep their pets cool this summer. Just like humans, animals can suffer from heat stress, so you should always make sure there’s some shade for your pet. Remember that dogs which are left in cars or garages on a hot day are in great danger. If you notice your pet is getting too warm, cool it down by spraying it with cold water.

Woman: Thanks for coming to the meeting. I’ll start with an offer we’ve prepared for you. If you have any news about an interesting event that you’d like to share with people all over our region, send us your story. If it is shorter than half a page, you won’t have to pay for having it printed. Also, if you work in a shop which is often visited by people living in the region, and you’d like to get copies of our magazine for free, contact us by email.

Man:

Excuse me, I’m doing a project and I need some opinions.

Woman:

Yes?

Man:

The Education Secretary suggested that British students should spend more time at school each day. What’s your view?

Woman:

Well…, in many countries students spend even less time at school than in Britain. But if you ask me, a longer day at school will help students get ready for their future jobs. British students do well in their exams, but many of them have problems when they enter the job market, so it might be a good idea.

Man:

Thanks for your opinion.

Jane:

Hi, Paul. Sorry I couldn’t be here to see your play last week. Did it go well?

Paul:

Very well. I couldn’t believe so many people had come to see it.

Jane:

Lucky you. Did you have one of the big parts?

Paul:

Well…I only had a few short lines to say, but Mrs Wilson promised to give me something more challenging next time. Anyway, to celebrate our success we’re organizing a trip to see The Globe. No other theatre in London can compare to it.

Jane:

That’s great. Let’s stay in touch.

Man: Our company noticed that many people serve food in plastic bowls or on plastic plates. This increases the amount of rubbish people produce. That’s why we’ve prepared this new type of dish made from natural materials. You can put your food on it and after lunch just eat your plate. It tastes really good. What’s more, if you buy our products, you won’t need a dishwasher. This will surely save you a lot of money and protect the environment.

Boy:

Mum, guess what, there’s an exhibition of some modern paintings at the main entrance here. I think you’ll love them.

Woman:

Oh, great ! I’m going there tomorrow to get some clothes for Molly, so I will have a look. Have you bought all the things I put on the list?

Boy:

Almost. I just have to find some yoghurt and something to drink. By the way, I’ll be a bit late. I’ve got to stop by the cinema to get some tickets for tomorrow.

Woman:

OK, but be quick. You know I need the food to prepare some supper.

Boy:

Sure!

Woman: A Californian company has invented a Dream Headband that can let you change what you do in your dreams and remember them. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to get rid of your bad dreams. The headband can only help you change what’s going to happen in your dreams. In the future, the company would like to make it possible to record your dreams and to let you see them on your computer screen. Are you interested?

Peter:

Sandra, your birthday is coming up. How are you going to celebrate it?

Sandra:

At home with my friends.

Peter:

Are you going to invite all of them?

Sandra:

Of course. You are also invited! I’m going to make some delicious food for the party.

Peter:

Will you use that new recipe you told me about yesterday?

Sandra:

Well, that one is too complicated. I’ll cook something I’ve already done before. At least I know it’s tasty. By the way, will you help me with the balloons and some confetti?

Peter:

Sure, no problem.

Woman:

Excuse me, I have a complaint to make.

Receptionist:

What’s the problem, madam?

Woman:

I was woken up by a noise last night and I couldn’t sleep.

Receptionist:

Sorry, I know the trains are a trouble.

Woman:

Actually, I am staying on the other side and trains don’t disturb me.

Receptionist:

Perhaps it was that noisy party on your floor. I really apologize.

Woman:

No, it was a terribly loud sound that made me jump to my feet.

Receptionist:

Oh, sorry, it was a smoke alarm.

Woman:

Did anything happen?

Receptionist:

No, it was started by mistake.
