Exercise 1.

Change the following sentences into the Passive Voice.

  1. You ought to return the books to the library.

  2. People mustn't park cars in front of that building.

  3. They ought to pay him.

  4. You should keep butter in the fridge.

  5. They will build a new school in five months.

  6. You informed the police about this crime yesterday.

  7. You will have to fill in a lot of forms.

Exercise 2.

Change the following sentences into the Passive Voice.

  1. Someone noticed the thief an hour earlier.

  2. Everyone knows the fact very well.

  3. They opened the theatre only last month.

  4. Someone is serving coffee now.

  5. People will soon forget the whole affair.

  6. Someone has translated those documents.

  7. You must write an answer in ink.

  8. Someone has taken away two of my books.

  9. One can easily forget a telephone number.

Exercise 3.

Answer the questions using suggestions in brackets.

  1. What time are the shops open in this town?(7 o'clock)

  2. Will this plan be discussed at the next meeting? (No, next year)

  3. Must the meeting be held today? (Yes,…).

  4. How often is the letter-box cleaned? (twice a day).

  5. Must this letter be posted at once? (Yes, …).

  6. Why hasn't the office been cleaned? (…because Mrs. Smith is ill).

Exercise 4.

Change the following sentences into the Active Voice

  1. The new bicycle was promised to John by them.

  2. A camera will be lent to John.

  3. A lie was told to the police.

  4. The post of treasurer was offered Mr Johnson by them.

  5. Susan should be taught to cook by someone.

  6. Our factory was shown to the visitor.

Exercise 5.

Translate into English(using Passive Voice)

  1. W naszej dzielnicy buduje się duży basen.

Translate into English(using Passive Voice)
