Dear Colleagues,
We are very pleased to host participants of the 5th Congress of Polish Association for Canadian Studies in Kraków.
We have booked accommodation in several hotels in the center of the Old Town:

  • at the Jagiellonian University Guest House (Dom Gościnny Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego) – ul. Floriańska 49 ( 49 Floriańska Street )

  • at the Logos hotel – ul. Szujskiego 5 ( 5 Szujskiego Street )

  • at the Royal hotel – ul. Świętej Gertrudy 29 ( 29 Swięta Gertruda Street )

  • at the Tournet hotel – ul. Miodowa 7 ( 7 Miodowa Street )

Below there are some practical tips concerning your arrival and stay.


For those who come to Krakow by plane:

Kraków-Balice Airport is located 11 km from the city center.




  1. By taxi (60-80 PLN = c. 20-30 CAD$ )

    • ask the driver about the price before the trip

    • show the driver the address written on a piece of paper

    • taxi stop is located next to the arrivals hall (Terminal 1)


It is possible to order a taxi by phone, e.g. by calling one of the following numbers:

+48 12 19191, +48 800 19 19 19 ; 800 444 444, 800 666 666, …..........
2. Buses: Bus stop is located a few meters right of Terminal 1. The following buses go to the center:

292 (get off at the stop Dworzec Główny Wschód) or 208 (get off at the last stop, which is also Dworzec Główny Wschód) and a night bus 902, which also goes to the railway station. From the bus stop you need to take the underpass leading to the railway station and head towards the city center through the main railway station building.

Tickets can be bought at the kiosk (salon prasowy Relay ) at the arrival halls, from the ticket machine at the bus stop (2.50 PLN; student ticket – 1,25 PLN//In Polish: NORMAL TICKET = BILET NORMALNY and STUDENT TICKET = BILET STUDENCKI.) or from the bus driver (3.00 PLN). The ticket must be validated at the bus!


If you change the bus, you need to validate a new ticket! From the bus stop you need to take the underpass leading to the railway station and head towards the city center through the main railway station building.

At the tram stops in the city center and on the trams and buses there are ticket machines with the instructions in English and French.

Bus trip takes about 40 minutes.
3. Train.

It is the fastest and the cheapest means of communication.

Train goes every half an hour, tickets can be bought on the train from the ticket inspector or from the ticket machine at the arrivals hall, cost: 3.80 PLN. You can reach train station on foot (approximately 200 m) or take a free airport shuttle bus. The train trip takes 15 minutes and the train takes you to the Kraków Główny railway station.

From the railway station


It is not worth taking a taxi from the Railway Station, just go towards the main railway station building (through the shopping mall or platforms).When you get to a big square outside the building (Plac Jana Nowaka Jeziorańskiego) go towards the tram line and through the underpass towards the old city walls (the Barbican, the Florian Gate), past the big building of 19th century theatre and the Szpitalna Street, then inside the city walls towards Floriańska Street. The Jagiellonian University Guest House is at house number 49 on the left, entrance near the shop window displaying university publications. You need to use the door bell. The front desk is inside the hall, on the right.

For those staying at the LOGOS hotel ( ulica Szujskiego 5 ) :

From the airport


  1. By taxi: address: HOTEL „LOGOS”, ul. SZUJSKIEGO 5 (5 SZUJSKIEGO STREET); the trip takes about 30 minutes.




  1. By a day bus

From a bus No. 292 get off at the bus stop signposted AGH ( Akademia Górniczo-Hutnicza in Aleje Adama Mickiewicza / ADAM MICKIEWICZ AVENUE ). From the bus stop you need to go back along Aleja Mickiewicza and take the first turning left (it will be ulica KRUPNICZA / KRUPNICZA STREET) It is best to stick to the left side of the Krupnicza street, go past a big dark building of Audytorium Maximum, a huge building of the theater and the hospital complex. The third turning left is ul. Szujskiego ( SZUJSKIEGO STREET ). You will find Logos hotel on the left at the end of the street.

By a night bus ( No. 902):

Travelling by bus No. 902 you need to get off the bus at the bus stop signposted TEATR „BAGATELA”. After getting off the bus head left (past the ROSSMAN store) and cross the street taking the underpass ON THE RIGHT towards the theater. There is a huge neon advert on it. The theater is situated between ulica Karmelicka (KARMELICKA STREET), where the trams go, and ul. Krupnicza (KRUPNICZA STREET) on its left; you need to take Krupnicza street. The first turning left will be ULICA SZUJSKIEGO (SZUJSKIEGO STREET). You will find Logos hotel on the left at the end of the street

3. FROM THE RAILWAY STATION


    1. By tram

You need to leave the platform and head towards the city center, through the railway station main building to the main entrance.

When you get to a big square outside the building (Plac Jana Nowaka Jeziorańskiego), you will see a modern ANDEL’S HOTEL right in front of you and a historic post office building on the left. Behind the post office building there is a tram stop. You need to take a tram No. 4 or 14 (601 bus at night), get off at a stop signposted: TEATR „BAGATELA” and walk to the crossroads (past the ROSSMAN store) and cross the street taking the underpass ON THE RIGHT towards the theater. There is a huge neon advert on it. The theater is situated between ulica Karmelicka (KARMELICKA STREET), where the trams go, and ul. Krupnicza (KRUPNICZA STREET) on its left; you need to take Krupnicza street. The first turning left will be ULICA SZUJSKIEGO (SZUJSKIEGO STREET), where the LOGOS HOTEL is situated.




    1. On foot ( for those with a little luggage)

You need to leave the platform and head towards the city center, through the railway station main building to the main entrance.

When you get to a big square outside the building (Plac Jana Nowaka Jeziorańskiego) go towards the tram line and through the underpass towards the old city walls. You will go past a big building of the 19th century theatre and Szpitalna Street and continue along the city wall on its outside. Go along the lane for pedestrians (Planty) inside the city wall. You will go past the Barbican and continue along this alley just as it curves. You will cross two streets. Then you will go past a gallery of modern art. And reach ulica SZEWSKA (Szewska Street). Turn right into Szewska street and on the crossroads head towards Teatr „Bagatela”. There is a huge neon advert on it. The theater is situated between ulica Karmelicka (KARMELICKA STREET), where the trams go, and ul. Krupnicza (KRUPNICZA STREET) on its left; you need to take Krupnicza street. The first turning left will be ULICA SZUJSKIEGO (SZUJSKIEGO STREET), where the LOGOS HOTEL is situated.


For those staying at the ROYAL Hotel ( ul. Świętej Gertrudy 29)


  1. By taxi :

  1. By bus

    1. During the day ( busses No. 292 and 208) :

Get off at the PLAC INWALIDÓW bus stop. You need to go back to the crossroads and go to the PLAC INWALIDÓW tram stop on the opposite corner. Take TRAM NO. 8 (direction : BOREK FAŁĘCKI). Get off at the stop signposted WAWEL. ROYAL HOTEL is right next to the tram stop on the right.

B. at night ( bus No. 902):

Get on a bus No. 902 and get off at the last bus stop signposted DWORZEC GŁÓWNY WSCHÓD. You need to take an underpass leading to the train station and head in the direction of the center through the main railway station building.

When you get to a big square outside the building (Plac Jana Nowaka Jeziorańskiego) you will see a modern ANDEL’S HOTEL right in front of you and a historic post office building on the left. Behind the post office building there is a tram stop. You need to take a tram No. 10 and get off at the stop signposted WAWEL. ROYAL HOTEL is right next to the tram stop on the right.



By train

You need to leave the platform and head towards the city center.

When you get to a big square outside the building (Plac Jana Nowaka Jeziorańskiego), you will see a modern ANDEL’S HOTEL right in front of you and a historic post office building on the left. Behind the post office building there is a tram stop. You need to take a tram No. 10 and get off at the stop signposted WAWEL. ROYAL HOTEL is right next to the tram stop on the right.

For those staying at the TOURNET hotel (ul. Miodowa 7):



From the airport

1. By taxi: show the following address to the taxi driver: HOTEL TOURNET, ul. MIODOWA 7 (7 MIODOWA STREET); the trip takes about 30 minutes.

2. By bus :

During the day you can take a bus No. 292 or 208; at night take bus No. 902. (the buses have different routes but they all go to the railway station). Get off at the last bus stop (DWORZEC GŁÓWNY WSCHÓD). You need to take an underpass leading to the train station and head in the direction of the city center through the main railway station building.

When you get to a big square outside the building (Plac Jana Nowaka Jeziorańskiego), you will see a modern ANDEL’S HOTEL right in front of you and a historic post office building on the left. Behind the post office building there is a tram stop. You need to take a tram No. 10 and get off at the stop signposted STRADOM. You need to cross the junction of ul. Stradom (STRADOM STREET) with a big double-lane ulica Józefa Dietla (JÓZEF DIETEL STREET) to get to the opposite corner. The continuation of Stradom street is ulica Krakowska (KRAKOWSKA STREET). First turning on its left is ulica Miodowa (MIODOWA STREET). The hotel is on the left (red neon light above the entrance).

3. By train :

When coming from the airport or another city, get off at the KRAKÓW GŁÓWNY station.

You need to head towards the city center, through the railway station main building.

When you get to a big square outside the building (Plac Jana Nowaka Jeziorańskiego) you will see a modern ANDEL’S HOTEL right in front of you and a historic post office building on the left. Behind the post office building there is a tram stop. You need to take a tram No. 10 and get off at the stop signposted STRADOM. You need to cross the junction of ul. Stradom (STRADOM STREET) with a big double-lane ulica Józefa Dietla (JÓZEF DIETEL STREET) to get to the opposite corner. The continuation of Stradom street is ulica Krakowska (KRAKOWSKA STREET). How to get to the Regional Library in Cracow (1 Rajska Street):

- From the Logos hotel:
Leave the hotel, go left and take the first street to the right.

It is Rajska Street. The library is on the left (big bright building)


- From the Tournet hotel:
After leaving the hotel, turn left and go a few meters until you reach Krakowska Street, which is between ten and twenty meters from the hotel. Do not cross the street, but turn left instead. You need to pass a bakery and after a while you will get to the tram stop signposted: Stradom. Take a TRAM NO. 8. The ticket can be bought from a ticket machine at the stop, in the tram or from the driver. The full fare is 2.50 PLN and the reduced ticket is 1.25 PLN. The ticket is always more expensive when bought from the driver.

Get off at the stop Teatr Bagatela, cross the street and head towards the theatre, situated at the Karmelicka Street. Go along the street about 200 metres. The first street left is Rajska Street. The library is on the right side of the street – it is a big bright building.




  • From the Royal Hotel:

After leaving the hotel, go left and cross Saint Gertruda Street. On the other side is the tram stop Wawel. Take a TRAM NO. 8. The ticket can be bought from a ticket machine at the stop, in the tram or from the driver. The full fare is 2.50 PLN and the reduced ticket is 1.25 PLN. The ticket is always more expensive when bought from the driver. Get off at the stop Teatr Bagatela, cross the street and head towards the theatre, situated at the Karmelicka Street. Go along the street about 200 metres. The first street left is Rajska Street. The library is on the right side of the street – it is a big bright building.


- From the Jagiellonian University Guest House:
Leave the house and go towards the old city walls (the Barbican and the Florian Gate). Pass through the gate and at the barbican turn left. Go along Planty avenue about 800 meters and passing two streets and a Gallery of Modern Art, until you reach Szewska Street. Then turn right and cross Szewska street and head towards the Bagatela Theatre, situated at Karmelicka street. Go along the street about 200 metres. The first street left is rajska street. The library is on the right side of the street – it is a big bright building.

- From the Railway Station (by tram):


You need to leave the platform and head towards the city center, through the railway station main building to the main entrance.

When you get to a big square outside the building (Plac Jana Nowaka Jeziorańskiego), you will see the modern hotel Andel’s. On the left side you will see a historic post office. Pass the post office building and you will see a tram stop.



You need to take A TRAM NO. 4 OR 14 (601 bus at night), get off at a stop signposted: Teatr „Bagatela” and walk to the crossroads (past the Rossman store) and cross the street going towards the Bagatela Theatre , situated at Karmelicka street. Go along the street about 200 metres. The first street left is Rajska street. The library is on the right side of the street – it is a big bright building.
After lunch , the conference proceedings take place at the Institute of American Studies and Polish Diaspora at Rynek Główny 34, the second floor
