XII GMINNY TEST Z JĘZYKA ANGIELSKIEGO DLA SZKÓŁ PODSTAWOWYCH

I Read the text and tick (V) two things the kangaroo, Tasmanian devil and koala have in common. Przeczytaj tekst i zaznacz (V) dwie cechy wspólne, które łączą kangura, diabła tasmańskiego i misia koalę.
Australian flora and fauna
Many plants and animals in Australia are unique. You can’t find them in any other country. Kangaroos, koala bears and Tasmanian devils are just three examples.

But why can’t you find them in any other places?

The answer is geography. Australia is a long way from other countries. The flora and fauna (scientific words meaning ‘plants’ and ‘animals’) of Australia evolved in isolation from the rest of the world, over millions of years. 83% of Australia’s mammals and 89% of its reptiles are unique to the country. They can be colourful, like 55 different types of parrot, and they can be dangerous: six Australian snakes are very dangerous. Some Australian animals are very strange. They include two unusual types of mammal: the monotremes, which lay eggs and the marsupials, which carry their babies in bags or ‘pouches’. Nearly 50% of Australia’s 280 mammals are marsupials. Some marsupials, like the kangaroo, the koala, and the Tasmanian devil, are well known.

These three animals have very different habits. The Tasmanian devil is a meat eater. It comes out at night and makes scary noises. Koalas live in trees and eat leaves of eucalyptus trees. Kangaroos are the most common marsupials – you can find them everywhere in Australia. They eat plants and can move at speed of up to 70kph.
