Acquainting students with the evolution of landscapes as reflecting the evolution of human cultures in the geographical space

Meaning of notion: natural scenery and his evolution in the geological history; the cultural landscape as the special case of landscapes evolution. The nature but the culture. Evolution of landscapes on chosen cultural and of civilization examples of circles. Elements of cultural landscapes; factors of transformations of landscapes, types of cultural landscapes (examples of classification). Stages transformed of landscapes on the example of Europe. Characteristics of cultural landscapes of Europe, of the Middle East, of the Far East. Standardizing cultural landscapes as the result of globalization processes. Threats of landscapes and their protection.

Content:

The profile of the main global socio-economic problems: unemployment, famine, corruption, poverty, smuggling, population boom, diseases (AIDS, SARS, plague, cancer, depression, neurosis), migration; political problems – global terrorism, armed conflicts, ecology problems: air pollution, ozone hole, greenhouse effect, water contamination, soil pollution, poaching, tree clearing, extreme climate phenomena; cultural and civilization problems: illiteracy, cultural and linguistic unification.

Global changes of the environment – reasons and effects. The interaction of ocean – atmosphere – continent. Global changes of the atmosphere – effects for hydrosphere, biosphere, profile of the Earth surface and human activity. Dynamics of ecosystems in tropical forests. Desertification and steppization – reasons. Depletion and anthropogenic degradation of natural resources – renewability and non-renewability of natural resources. Natural disasters – global consequences. Predicting global changes of the natural environment.
